Summermusik

Oil on violin
23”H x 8¼”W x 1½”D

Inspiration Concert:
The Summermusik Festival
“The known, the unknown and the unexpected”
– Eckart Preu, Music Director

Alison’s violin evokes idyllic summers, with nature and music coming together in the symbolic Hummingbird, roses and golden embellishment. The Hummingbird is a totem of joy…and hums! The roses are symbolic of beauty, balance and associated with godliness and high endeavors…and are traditionally given or thrown in response to superlative performances.
Alison is well-known for her soulful realism, particularly her oil paintings of flowers and birds.
In making this piece she channeled Klimt’s style of mixing less formed and gaudy passages with tight, realistic passages; thus, a vining silhouette of rose leaves and scatterings of metallic gold suggestive of sunbeams bind the realistic elements together into a harmonious piece both familiar and exotic, earthy and luxurious—like Summermusik!

Alison is known for her figurative work, bold florals and delicate wildlife depictions. Alison’s creations are keyed to an appreciation of natural cycles exemplified both in the exuberant beauty of her summer flowers and in her inspired embrace of the Shackleton Antarctic exploration, reckoning with the perils and possibilities of extreme winter.
